      • Special symbols:

        • Holm oak: Green dot (418). Represented from 1.5 meters high.

        • Fallen Tree: Green X (419). Most are dry, having been overturned years ago; although there are also others that have fallen more recently that still maintain greenness, despite being lying down with roots out. It has been given importance in the drawing representing most of them, so some may not be prominent on the ground.

        • Hunting post. Black X (531). We find them of two types: square-shaped built with pallets. And circular in shape built with esparto grass and stones, this one of lower height than the other type.

    • Course planner: José Aº García Murcia.

      • Course planner comments: The long race of this edition of the Costa Cálida takes place in the Cerro de los “Apedreaos” and the Alhagüeces area, located south of the urban center of Zarzadilla de Totana. The routes run through three different areas: The northern part of the Hill, where the slope is more pronounced and the vegetation limits speed more. The western part that presents a relief marked by water erosion, with abundant relief details. And the southern part, with a gentler slope where areas of semi-open forest, crops and paths alternate. Only the longest routes will run through the northern area. The routes have been prepared using long sections, in which the choice of route will be essential, alternating them with shorter ones, which together with the changes of direction will require the use of different orientation techniques. Always looking for a dynamic race with options and that poses a challenge to the participants.

      • Land description: Located between 700 and 900 m. of altitude. Typical Mediterranean. Made entirely of Aleppo pine, it offers good visibility and runability, mostly except on the northeast slope where vegetation and unevenness are more abundant. As for the predominant thicket, esparto is found, covering almost all the ground. In a scattered way, Kermes oaks appear that have been represented as green. The relief is the most interesting part of the terrain, highlights the elevation of a hill that separates both slopes of north and south; being the southern slope the most extensive and with gentler slopes. The scarcity of rocky elements is pleasantly compensated by the richness of relief elements. A large number of small streams created by water erosion have been represented, which without being accused have been given importance. Due to the esparto grass, the visibility of these small streams is greatly reduced.

      • Photos of the terrain.

    • Starts:

The design of the routes has conditioned the situation of the provisioning, for this reason in the record of distances and unevenness of the test the number of provisioning stations of each route and the distance from the exit to it are reported, so that the runner can estimate if he should carry some container to stock up on the race or not. • Fieldwork January 2022.

    • Course planner: Jesús Bernal Gómez.

      • Course planner comments: The sprint race of the 34th Costa Cálida takes place in the urban center of Zarzadilla de Totana, as well as its surroundings to the North and East. The race will start in the highest part of the map, with the start (quarantine for the categories ME, FE, M20E, F20E, M18E, and F18E) at the local sports center, in the vicinity of which is also the finish area. The first part of the races will run around the outside of the urban core, going through areas of olive and almond trees, terraces and arid land with good visibility, to later enter the town in an intricate labyrinth of old streets, orchards, stairs, land semi-open and some park, where it will be necessary to show both concentration and decision in choosing the fastest route to the controls. The town is on a slope, so the existence of terraces, embankments and cliffs is frequent on the map, some of which are used for the location of controls. This circumstance must also be taken into account when choosing the route. The road that delimits the map to the south cannot be used (purple line) although movement through its outer area is allowed.

      • Description of the land: The street is irregular and with a southeast slope orientation throughout the map. The orchard part is mostly terraced with olive trees, with a few almond trees. Small slopes of 1 m appear on the terraces. approx. Inside the urban nucleus, small watercourses (Canals) have been represented when they are representative and allow good legibility of the map, having a width of less than half a meter.

      • Terrain photos.

      • In the race there will be no liquid provisioning.

      • At the finish line there will be liquid refreshment through large capacity water bottles, so it is recommended that runners bring their own glass to refresh themselves in this area. There will be no solid provisioning.

    • First departures from 3:30 p.m.

    • From 3:00 p.m. no runner will be able to enter the competition area, and must wait for their start time in the area near the parking lot (next to the sports pavilion) and the finish line.

    • The pre-start call will be made -4 minutes before the time of each of the runners.

    • The starts for the OPEN categories will be between 16:00 and 17:30 hours without an assigned times.

    • Course planner: Salvador Martínez Cánovas.

      • Course planner comments: The 34th COSTA CÁLIDA INTERNATIONAL TROPHY will take place in the municipality of Lorca, hamlet of Zarzadilla de Totana, and more specifically on the map called “Los Alhagüeces”. It is made up of the typical Mediterranean pine, with Aleppo pine forest and scrub, where esparto predominates. The area used for the middle distance will be the southern slope of the Los Apedreaos hill, which has ideal characteristics for this type of test. In it we will find more pronounced relief detail in the northern area, which will decrease in the central area, where the softness of the relief will mean that the orienteers will have to be in contact with the map at all times in order to avoid serious errors due to the Difficulty in relocation due to lack of great details. The center-south area of the map is dotted with farming areas, which although at first glance it seems easy to navigate through them, it can be an added difficulty if we do not adapt to their characteristics. The terrain generally allows a medium-high running speed, although it must be taken into account that there are areas where the esparto grass is thicker and that will make it difficult, as well as how to navigate between this type of vegetation, the technique race will be very important to be able to get the maximum speed, in some areas the low vegetation of esparto grass makes the relief elements very difficult to appreciate. Early entry on the map will be very important, knowing how to identify the cartographer's criteria in the drawing of elements such as fallen trees, (green X 419) holm oaks (green dot 418). In the preparation of the routes, an attempt has been made to take into account that the precise reading of the map prevails, short sections and changes of direction, concentration and reading of the map can be decisive for the final result. Special attention must be paid to the control numbers of the beacons when they are, always at the regulatory distance, close to each other.

      • Description of the land: Located between 700 and 900 m. of altitude. Typical Mediterranean. Made entirely of Aleppo pine, it offers good visibility and runability, mostly except on the northeast slope where the vegetation and unevenness are more abundant.
